AlaskaAlaska is the 49th state of the US. It was admitted on January 3, 1959. The population of the state as of 2003 was 648,818. The name "Alaska" is most likely derived from the Aleut word Alyeska, meaning greater land as opposed to the Aleut word Aleutia, meaning lesser land. To the Aleuts, this distinction was a linguistic variation distinguising the mainland from an island. At the instigation of U. S. Secretary of State, William Seward, the U. S. Senate approved the purpose of Alaska from Russia for $7,200,000 on April 9, 1867. (from Wikipedia)
38 Series - Set 1: Alaska38 Series - Set 2: AlaskaThis set consists of three Caribou running over the rise of a mountain, a Caribou in Fall color and who also has Fall color on his rack, a Grizzly also in Fall color and a Beaver Kit who so wanted to help mom and dad work on their lodge. Sadly enough, however, dad did NOT want his help. The little fellow sulked and went to the opposite side of the pond. Eventually though, he got over it and went back to his parents. (They still wouldn't let him help, however.) Price: $12.50 38 Series - Set 3: AlaskaI just loved this lone Caribou off in the distance - something about the environmental portrait which to me tells a story about Alaska and its wildness. There's also a Ptarmigan, an Arctic Ground Squirrel who was hoping that somebody would give him food (of course, we didn't!), plus a Female Moose. Price: $12.50 38 Series - Part 4: Alaska |
